Almost caught up - camping people

Aiden decided to join Cub Scouts this year.  I think he's going to love it especially as much as he enjoyed filling his Wildnerness Explorer book at Animal
Kingdom.

Right off the bat they announced to camping dates.  This meant it was a good time to clean up some if the garage to get to the attic and find our tent.  It was a wedding present that we've never used, so we hoped it would still be I working condition after 14 years in storage.  We also found another useful wedding gift - a picnic basket.

A couple of days before the first planned camp out, we did a test run with the tent.  We didn't want to look like complete idiots out there.  Fortunately our little tent is easy to put up and take down and would fit the 4 of us for sleeping.

The day before the campout we bought air mattresses (2 twins are bigger than 1 queen) and sleeping bags.  Then we stocked up on snacks.  We were ready and excited. Then.... It rained!  The campout was cancelled, and Aiden was heaetbroken.  Since it was still raining when we picked him up from school, we convinced him that we would camp in Nana's backyard the next night.

And we did.  We took the firepit with us and set up camp under a couple of trees.  We had hot dogs and marshmallows.

It was chilly, but our sleeping bags were pretty snug.  Rylee and Aiden passed right out.  We were comfy cozy and enjoying ourselves so much we booked a campsite in Branson for the next weekend.  In hindsight, we probably should have actually made it through the night first, but it was pretty smooth and wouldn't have changed anything even though the mattresses slid apart.

So last Friday we checked into The Wildnerness campground.  It was a rough night to say the least - noisy road, loud neighbors, restless little girl, hot and humid.  We managed to get a little sleep and hit Silver Dollar City the next day.

It was still hot when we left the park, so we hit the store for some provisions.  Then, Joseph made some awesome burgers and dogs over the campfire.  And s'mores of course!!

Saturday night went much better for most of us - still trying to finesse the sleeping arrangement with the mattresses.  The tent even withstood a couple of rain showers in the early morning hours.  Although one corner of our rain shield came loose somehow, nothing and nobody in the tent was soaked too bad.  It helped that Joseph braved the rain to re-fasten it.  Lol!

Just like that we are camping people.  I'm anxious to go again.  I really want to get more cooking equipment and cook over the fire.  Hot dogs and burgers are fine, but I'm ready to explore into the wonderful world of the Dutch oven.

We're even looking at bigger tents and more camping stuff.  Although I think we'll have to break out the roof carrier if we take much more.  Our Equinox is fabulous but doesn't have much storage!

Oh, and I do recommend The Wildnerness campground.  It would have been better to be further off the road, but the site was clean.  The walk to the bathroom facility wasn't too far although it was uphill, and the bathrooms and showers were modern and clean.  The General Store is a nice touch, but some items are pricey.  The best part was the woods behind the site and the sounds of crickets at night.  Oh, and every site has a fire pit since they're out of the city limits.  Awesome!  We paid a little extra for water and electricity but didn't use much of either.

Happy Camping!!
